Military Resources Operation Big Brothers Big Sisters: You can apply for a FREE School Based Mentoring program! Operation Bigs is a Big Brothers Big Sisters one-to-one mentoring program for children in military families. In this program adult volunteers (Bigs) visit with the students (Littles) once a week for one hour in a supervised setting at their school campus. Each Big and Little makes a commitment to meeting for one calendar year. During the session Bigs & Littles engage in sports and recreational activities, play fun board games and card games, put together arts & crafts projects, or simply talk about life—just as friends do. Through this friendship children are provided with quality one-on-one attention, encouragement, and support. Our most recent Youth Outcomes Report (June 2013) shows children who have participated in school-based mentoring programs have maintained or improved their outlook in areas of social acceptance, scholastic competence, educational expectations, & academic performance.
